New Packing Facility in Mt Maunganui
May saw the commissioning of the new Class 3 packing area on the Mt Maunganui site. The area has been created as the result of a reshuffle of the packing and storage area.
The old packing area has been absorbed into an extended drum and packing materials storage shed. The drum store will have mesh gating closing it off. This will add to the security of supplies on site.
The project also included a refurbishing of the cladding on the central fill-stand. The improvement is stunning and, as it is on the front of the site, it really refreshes the look of the whole facility.
Class 3 Storage Fire Protection
The fire protection on site was upgraded last year as BST increased the storage capability for at the Mt Maunganui Terminal. Part of this protection is provided by Fire Monitors that are strategically placed around the smaller storage tanks.
These Monitors or Water Cannon have the capability of firing water or a fire retardant foam/water mix about 50 metres. This makes them ideal to control a conflagration should the unlikely event happen.
The larger tanks on site all have water spray rings on their outer surfaces and are all protected by foam injection directly into the tank.
